Praseodymium yellow
The only Winsor & Newton colour that’s in my palette is their lemon yellow deep. The reason is that it’s a really amazing warmish mid-yellow.
Schmincke has nothing like it. Rutile yellow is pale and cool. So it titanium yellow. Turner’s yellow is much more warm, tinged with the slightest orange. Vanadium yellow is very bright (in saturation). Almost too bright. As I said I don’t like cadmium yellows. And all the other yellows are synthetic not inorganic. Schmincke doesn’t have anything close to it, so there is a space, a place, for zirconium-praseodymium yellow in my art.
Lemon yellow deep is composed of pigment number PY159, or zirconium praseodymium silicate (Zr,Pr)SiO4. I wonder why they didn’t call it “praseodymium yellow”? It has such a beautiful name!
